As you know air, water and food are the three fundamental neccessities of life and only nature can provide these three essentials to not only to man but also to all living organisms in nature. Let us now see how trees render these to nature.
We breathe and release a lot of carbondioxide into the new system. Trees inturn absorbs this CO2 and by means of photosynthesis produce Oxygen and release it into the air and in turn purities the air. But human beings through their various activities produce CO2 at an alarming rate so that the plants and trees are chocked and hence CO2 remains unpurified and causes what is called global warming which is going to be a Catastrophe, the end result of which may be the total annihilation or rout of all the living systems from the face of this good earth.
The dead leaves and twigs in the forests can absorbs water like a sponge and sometimes can prevent flash floods. The water thus absorbed can be held back for future use. Haven’t, you noticed that if cooler under the shade of trees than inside a building. How does that take place? Leave of trees can release a lot of water vapour into the rainfall. There have been heavy rains in the forests than on the plains. Trees with their roots spread all over the soil can prevent soil erosion. Thus trees provide us the second neccessity viz water.
Only trees and plants can produce food of theirs own. We live on the food produced by them. How wonderful it is! We depend on them so much so that each tree felled can cause immense damage to the eco-balance.
We need a third of the land area as reserved forests. The forest cover is so essential for our own well-being. The rishis of old worshipped forests. They would ask trees for permission to cut them down for some utility.
Now we celebrate forest festivals in schools to create awarness of the importace of trees in their life in children.
